Newell Smart C8 charger for NiMH / Li-Ion batteries

Description

The Newell C8 is a universal, eight-channel charger that is compatible with most commercially available cylindrical batteries. The LCD display shows voltage, amperage, charge time, internal resistance and the charge status of the cell – all allowing you to easily determine the parameters and status of the process. The specially designed housing allows even the largest batteries (type C or 22650) to be charged simultaneously in all eight channels.

Automatic or manual selection of optimum current

By default, the charger sets the charging current automatically based on the characteristics of the battery. It is also possible to manually set the current between 100 mA and 1,500 mA for lithium-ion batteries and between 100 mA and 1,000 mA for Ni-MH and Ni-CD batteries.

Battery type selection

The Newell Smart C8 automatically recognises Li-ion 4.2 V and NiMH/NiCd 1.48 V battery types. LiFEP04 and Li-ion 4.35 V batteries are not detected automatically. To charge these batteries, their type must be entered manually.

Measurement of internal resistance and cell capacity

Before starting the charge, the device measures the internal resistance and estimates the capacity of the cell. Both values are shown on the LCD display.

Capacity calculation by charging

Once charging is complete, we can read the estimated capacity of the battery on the display.

Multiple protections

Protection against incorrect battery insertion and short-circuiting, as well as automatic stopping of charging when the battery is fully charged to avoid overcharging, make the process safe and energy-efficient. The housing made of flame-resistant materials and perfectly designed heat dissipation further enhance safety.

Repair of over-discharged lithium-ion batteries

Most chargers are unable to charge cells that are over-discharged or at 0 volts. The Newell Smart C8, upon detecting such a cell, will attempt to reactivate and repair the lithium-ion battery. Unfortunately, cells discharged below a certain level will deteriorate and reactivation may not be possible.
