The 10-18mm Laowa C-Dreamer Ultra Wide is currently the widest rectal zoom lens for full-frame Sony mirrorless cameras. It has been designed with mobile photographers and filmmakers in mind. It is the ideal choice for travellers looking to fit breathtaking landscapes and amazing and monumental city architecture into the frame.
A compact powerhouse
The Laowa 10-18 mm lens stands out from other wide-angle zooms due to its compact size. Measuring 8 x 7 cm and weighing less than half a kilogram, this sturdy yet “tiny” metal construction conceals excellent quality optics for creatively capturing the world around us.
Advanced optics
At the heart of the lens are 14 optical elements, arranged in 10 groups. Two aspherical lenses and one extra-low dispersion glass correct spherical and chromatic aberration.
Frog Eye Coating, which is applied to the convex lens on the front of the lens, prevents flare and flare and protects the glass from dust and dirt.
Optical solutions used in the lens provide high quality imaging at both the centre and edges of the frame.
The Laowa C-D lens has a wide field of view.
The field of view of the Laowa C-Dreamer Ultra Wide Zoom lens covers 130° at 10 mm focal length and 102° at 18 mm. This guarantees extraordinary freedom in composing ultra-wide – panoramic landscape shots and architectural images.
Special effects
A specially designed aperture consisting of five straight leaves allows for the effect of aesthetically pleasing and well-defined 10-point “stars” that appear in place of the sun or other light sources such as street lamps.
The minimum focus distance allows you to approach your subject at a distance of 15 cm, which, with a maximum magnification of 0.25x, creates interesting possibilities for macro photography and for creating interesting multi-plane frames with a unique perspective.
What about filters?
The designers at Venus Optics have not forgotten about photographers and filmmakers who cannot imagine working without UV or ND filters. A 37mm UV filter is included with the lens, which is mounted on the bayonet side.
Filter mounting on the front of the lens is possible with a special magnetic adapter. The dedicated holder is designed for standard rectangular filters with a width of 100 mm.
Facilities for photographers and filmmakers
Manual focusing with this lens is a pleasure. The manual focus ring, works impeccably and with noticeable resistance. The lens is marked with a distance scale in metres and feet. There is a choice of two aperture modes. The classic – gradual – with a characteristic ‘click’, and a stepless mode that allows smooth and soundless aperture changes during filming. Switching between modes is done via a convenient and quick-to-use switch.
