Improved processing, greater versatility, but familiar in design, the Nikon Z 7II takes everything that was great from the original and ups its capabilities even more. Sporting a high-resolution 45.7MP FX-format BSI CMOS sensor and dual EXPEED 6 image processors, the Z 7II is clearly aimed at the detail-obsessed image-maker.
The Z 7II retains its overall physical design but has been updated with a new dual memory card slot interface to hold one CFexpress Type B card and one SD UHS-II card for more flexible storage. Both a high-res 3.6m-dot OLED EVF and rear 3.2" 2.1m-dot tilting touchscreen LCD lend versatility to image composition and playback. SnapBridge wireless connectivity can be used for remote camera control, image sharing to a mobile device, and firmware updates.
Firmware version 1.10 unlocks UHD 4K recording at 60p and 50p frame rates, enables raw video output to Blackmagic Design Video Assist external recorders, and improves eye-detection performance when using Auto-Area AF and Wide-Area AF modes.
The 45.7MP BSI CMOS sensor is designed for high-resolution shooting, impressive low-light quality, and fast readout speeds. The back-illuminated design reduces noise at high ISO values, up to a native ISO 25600, while maintaining vivid quality at sensitivities as low as ISO 64. The sensor omits the conventional optical low-pass filter for maximum sharpness and resolution.
The Z 7II is a capable multimedia camera, supporting UHD 4K video recording up to 60p and Full HD 1080p up to 120p for slow-motion playback. Advanced video functionalities include N-Log gamma for capturing flat footage and HLG (HDR) for HDR-ready recordings. The camera can output high-quality 10-bit data over HDMI and features an Electronic VR function for smooth handheld shooting.
The 493-point phase-detect autofocus system covers 90% of the image area, providing fast and accurate focusing for both stills and video. Hybrid AF is available for video, automatically switching between phase- and contrast-detect systems for smooth focus during shooting.
In-body 5-axis sensor-shift Vibration Reduction compensates for up to 5 stops of camera shake, compatible with Z-type lenses and adapted F-mount lenses using the optional FTZ Adapter.
The Nikon FTZ Mount Adapter enables the use of nearly any Nikon F-mount lens on Z-mount mirrorless camera bodies, maintaining autofocus and auto-exposure capabilities for seamless use. The adapter is built from magnesium alloy and is weather-sealed.
