RODE Podcaster Dynamic Microphone
The RODE Podcaster is a professional dynamic microphone with USB connectivity and excellent broadcast sound quality.
Features and Specifications
The RODE Podcaster is a dynamic microphone with USB output that combines broadcast quality sound with the simplicity of USB connectivity, allowing you to record directly to your computer without the need for an additional digital interface.
The Podcaster features an A/D converter with 18-bit resolution and a 48kHz sample rate, which it uses to internally process all analog-to-digital conversion, completely bypassing the poor quality internal computer audio driver.
Design and Functionality
The Podcaster's microphone shape is reminiscent of the popular EV RE20, and the specs show a strong onset around 10 kHz, which should ensure a distinctive, clear sound. Since the microphone has a cardioid directional characteristic, it significantly reduces the amount of ambient unwanted noise.
The headphone output located on the body of the microphone allows for zero-latency monitoring, so the user can hear exactly what is being recorded. Simply plug the headphones into the prepared microphone port, set the control to the desired listening volume level and then just hear your voice without any delay or latency.
The microphone features an internal pop filter that is designed to minimize plosive sounds that can overload the microphone capsule and thus distort the audio output.
Compatibility and Usage
Podcaster is fully compatible with Windows 7, Windows 8, and Mac OS X, as well as several Linux systems. The microphone is powered via a USB bus and has an LED to indicate operation.
It can also be used with an Apple iPad (in conjunction with the iPad Camera Connection Kit and powered USB hub) to create high-quality recordings for various audio applications such as Garageband.
Applications and Warranty
Podcaster is ideal for podcasting, vodcasting, YouTube video creation, voice recognition software, corporate videos, and any other application that requires a simple but professional microphone. It's also a convenient demo microphone for musicians and songwriters who prefer the convenience and benefits of a USB microphone while expecting high-quality sound.
The Podcaster package includes the rugged RM2 microphone mount. For professional applications, the PSM1 spider and PSA1 arm (must be purchased) are recommended.
The RODE Podcaster, which won the prestigious Australian Design Award, is covered by an extended 10-year warranty (after registering the microphone on the manufacturer's website).
